Italy – Dressed neatly, a group of Italian children stand on the side of a road, an interested audience as a Sherman tank of the Eighth Army rumbles by. Italy’s new generation, symbolized here, has been bred to the cannon, knowing only the privations of warfare under Fascist rule. The ponderous tank, a tool of Mars, in this case is also a symbol of liberation. As the tank and its crew moves ahead the forces of Democracy and a new way of living moves in on these youngsters.
