WWI wooded Armorer's Chest. This was issued specifically for the M1917 Rifle used by US troops during the war, although it is very close in appearance to the armorer's chest issued for the M1903 Springfield rifle as well. It is made of wood, with heavy iron strap and flathead screws. Painted green, the sides are stenciled in black, "ARM REPAIR, CHEST M17 FOR RIFLE M17".
The inside has many compartments and drilled areas for the small arms tools of the day, hammers, punches, screwdrivers, drill bits, parts, etc. There are no tools with the case, just the case itself.
Still has most of the equipment list glued to the bottome of the lid, of the 3 of these that I have seen in 30+ years, this is the only one to have this list, which is why I bought it several years ago.
Very neat original antique/vintage accessory for anyone interested in WWI, the US Army or USMC, the old rifles they used back then, tool collectors, etc.
