MARINES TAKE OVER JAP BLOCK HOUSE
PELELIU IS.—An American Sherman tank rumbles past this Jap blockhouse, filled with gaping shell holes – proof of the number of hits necessary to put defending Japs out of action. This blockhouse is now being used as a First Aid Station by 1st Division Marines on Peleliu. After 12 days of fierce fighting, Marines on the island see complete victory in sight.
