Marines Push Forward on Tinian
Tinian, Marianas Is. – With monotonous regularity – for the Japanese on the Marianas Islands – the Marines land again. This time it is Tinian, less than three miles from Saipan, and the third in the group to be invaded in less than six weeks. Tanks roar ashore from landing craft, drive up beach road gouged out by a bulldozer toward island’s vital airfields.
