Destruction After Battle for Caen, 1944
The French town of Caen was captured from the occupying German army by British and Canadian soldiers on July 9th, 1944. The town was badly damaged after five weeks of fighting and the retreating German forces mined what was left of the town, slowing down the Allied advance.
