Checking_backlash

Part of the set-up of a crownwheel and pinion in a diff is the 'backlash', which is the freeplay between the crownwheel and pinion teeth. It should be checked with a dial guage (shown) and should be around 0.005"-0.010" (1/8-1/4mm).
